RALEIGH- After a #STATEment first weekend of competition back in the water, the NC State swimming and diving team is set for another slate of dual meets Friday andSaturday.
The men’s team will host Northwestern Friday at 5 p.m. inside the Casey Aquatic Center, while the women will travel to Duke for an 11 a.m. dual inside the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.
Live results will be available for both meets and the men’s home meet will be streamed on GoPack All-Access.
Last Time Out
The Pack took down Wisconsin in its season opener at home last Friday and Saturday, as the men won, 224-121, and the women earned a 200-149 win over the Badgers.
NC State posted the top mark in 33 of the 38 events contested, setting eight pool records and earning 29 NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the process. Additionally, two divers earned their NCAA Zone qualification marks.
Thanks to strong performances over the weekend, Hannah Moore was named CollegeSwimming.com’s National Female Swimmer of the Week and Anton Ipsen picked up ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors. Alexia Zevnik was additionally named CollegeSwimming.com’s ACC Female Swimmer of the Week.
Pack In The Polls
In the first national poll of the season (Oct. 26), the men’s team is listed at No. 3 and the women are ranked 4th. This marks the highest ranking the women’s program has ever received while the last time the men were No. 3 was in February 2016.
The Pack is the only program to have both its men’s and women’s team listed in the top-five of this week’s national poll.
Scouting Northwestern Men
Northwestern enters Friday’s dual with a perfect 4-0 record, recently sweeping its quad meet with UIC, Olivet Nazarene and University of Chicago.
The Wildcat men only lost two members from last year’s squad, and have 11 sophomores on this year’s squad that have valuable competition experience. Last season the program only had one travel to the NCAA Championships, diver Andrew Cramer, becoming the first Wildcat to compete at NCAAs in the modern era.
Senior Jordan Wilimovsky is coming off of an impressive summer, as he earned top-five finishes in the 10k open water race and 1500m freestyle at the Rio Olympics. He made U.S. history by becoming the first American swimmer to compete in both pool and open water events.
Scouting Duke Women
Duke’s women are listed at No. 19 in the most recent CSCAA poll, coming off of a quad meet sweep in their first weekend of competition.
The Blue Devils took down Virginia Tech (RV), West Virginia and William and Mary last Saturday to hold a 3-0 record heading into this weekend.
The program returns six of its seven NCAA qualifiers from last season as well as Olympic Diving Trials competitor Mackenzie Willborn. Four from the women’s team qualified for NCAAs as individuals while Duke earned bids in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
