UC Santa Barbara Pulls In SoCal Free/Fly Specialist Kian Brouwer

Kian Brouwer of Venice, California has verbally committed to the University of California, Santa Barbara for the 2017-18 season.

“I chose Santa Barbara because of the excellent coaches, the amazing campus and the team atmosphere. I am very excited to continue my swimming at UCSB.”

Brouwer is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Palisades High School. He is the CIF-Los Angeles City Section record-holder in the 50 free, 200 free and 100 fly individually, and as a member of the Palisades 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays. At the 2016 CIF-LA City meet he led a Palisades 1-2-3 of the 200 free (winning in 1:38.55) and a 1-2 sweep of the 100 fly (48.42). Brouwer also led off the 4×50 in 20.77 and the 4×100 in 45.30. He is a NISCA All-American in the 50/100/200 free, 100 fly, and the 400 free relay.

Brouwer swims year-round for the club team Westside Aquatics. He had two A-final (100m fly and 100m free) and two B-final (50m free and 200m free) finishes at Stanford Futures in August.

His best SCY times are:

  • 50 free – 20.77
  • 100 free – 45.30
  • 200 free – 1:38.40
  • 100 fly – 48.42
