San Diego, California’s Brendan Santana has verbally committed to swim for the University of Notre Dame beginning next fall. Santana is a senior at University City High School, and the reigning CIF-SDS Division II champion in both the 100 fly (48.94) and 100 back (49.81). Santana also contributed to University City’s third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (splitting 21.60 on the fly leg, although he’s been as fast as 21.40 before) and fourth-place showing in the 400 free relay (anchoring with 47.23). After CIF Sectionals Santana moved on to the California state meet where he was runner-up in the 100 fly with 48.20 and third in the 100 back (49.19).
Santana swims year-round at Pacific Swim. He finished 10th in both the 100m fly and 200m fly at Speedo Junior Nationals this past summer; he was also 10th in the 200y fly at Winter Juniors West. His best times are:

Santana will join the Notre Dame class of 2021 with Will Cumberland and Zach Yeadon, but will just miss overlapping with captain Tommy Anderson from San Diego, who is a senior this year.

Gee whiz I thought he was a football player because he was on the football field. Kind of an interesting strategy to give a spot on the swim team at Notre Dame to a football player. I don’t think Brian Kelly will like this.
