Cave and Murray Set New Records at Australian State Age Champs

David Cave and Lydia Murray both set new meet records at the 2016 Australian State Team Age Short Course Championships on Saturday. In the first session of the day Cave of Victoria posted a time of 2:10.45 to win the boys 16-17 200 breaststroke breaking Matthew Wilson‘s record of 2:11.23.

Murray of Queensland set a new championship record in the girls 13-14 100 butterfly putting up a time 1:00.06. The 13 year old also won the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.36.

Leaon MacAlister of New South Wales won two events in the morning session and one event in the evening session. MacAlister won the boys 16-17 50 backstroke in a time of 25.14 and the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.01. In the second session he completed the sweep of the backstroke events taking the 200 in a time of 1:57.67. Alex Quach, also representing New South Wales collected three gold on Saturday. Quach won the boys 14-15 50 backstroke in a time of 25.60, he took the 100 backstroke in a time of 55.36 and hit the wall first in the 100 freestyle in a time of 51.37.

Three Victorian swimmers were also multiple gold medalists on Saturday. Gabriella Peiniger won the girls 13-14 50 backstroke in a time of 28.31 and posted a 1:02.00 to win the 100 backstroke. David Schlicht won the the boys 16-17 200 IM in a time of 1:59.14 and followed that up by taking the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:58.02. Sophie Caldwell on the girls 15-16 800 freestyle in a time of 8:40.31 and followed that up with a win in the 400 IM recording a time of 4:44.23.

Queensland also had one swimmer finish atop of the podium twice on the second day of competition. Isabel Lampre won the girls 15-16 200 IM in a time of 2:13.27 and took the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:00.87.
