Pine Crest Girls Break 20 Year Losing Streak Against Bolles School

The Pine Crest School’s girls’ swim team broke a 20-year old losing streak against the Bolles School, beating them by 11 points in a dual meet on Friday September 23rd.

Team Scores:

Girls

  1. Pine Crest – 160
  2. Bolles – 149

Boys

  1. Bolles – 193
  2. Pine Crest – 112

The Pine Crest girls won 10 out of all 12 events, including all of the relay events, the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 free, 100 fly, 100 free and 500 free. They also went 1-2-3-4 in the diving events, with first place in the 1m diving. They finished the meet with a total score of 160, beating out the Bolles girls by 11 points.

Pine Crest’s young swimmers, Alexandra Meszaros and Andrea Santander, led them to victory with two wins each. Meszaros took the 200 free in 1:55.15 and later took the 100 fly in 57.10. Santander’s wins came in the 200 IM (2:08.47) and the 500 free (5:05.98).

The Bolles girls made a big push late to steal the lead back with wins in the 100 backstroke from Abi Wilder (58.71) and Katherine Baker won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.31) – the latter of which came in a 1-3-4-5 finish for Bolles. The Bulldogs held even in the meet-closing 400 free relay, but Meszaros anchored Pine Crest to a punctuating win in that race and an overall win in the meet.

The Bolles girls won last year’s Florida 1A High School State Championship meet, and Pine Crest was 4th.

Countering the women’s result, the Pine Crest boys fell to the dominant Bolles School, with the Bulldogs winning 7 out of 12 events.

Matt Serra, an uncommitted senior, had a big early performance to his final year of high school with a 51.29 in the 100 fly and a 52.78 in the 100 back.

Luckily it is only a rumor….but that’s how things get started. No suits and no rest for dual meet!!!! And that’s a fact not a rumor!!!!

Wow great for PC a lot of great things happening there! Good kids working hard and great coaches to support them. Bolles put up a lot of great swims. No reason to take away anything from these kids with negative comments! Look forward to Bolles and Pine Crest Competing in the future the match up will only get better!

32 years ago, the Pine Crest girls had a 1:52.0 200 free (Olympian Ann Marshall), and a 58.7 100 fly (Kathy Bradley) among many other swims that would still be considered amazing.

Make that 42 years ago. Never was good at math.

58 is still a really good time but the modern swimmer would swim 54 to 55 today to be on the same level.

Bolles took no divers to meet

Makes sense. This is about the time that Sergio’s absence will start to really show. I imagine recruiting hasn’t been as successful the past few years.

Ok. First of all, you are not allowed to recruit for high school. Second of all, Bolles is more than capable of still beating pine crest for the state title this year and should only get better next year for sure.

“Pine Crest girls won 10 put of 12 events”

Wasn’t just diving… can’t win a meet only on depth

If PC won 1-2-3-4 in diving that’s 23 points. A lot of teams win by depth alone.

Very true… but to credit the win to only the diving team is a little ignorant. It’s like saying that any relay that wins is only credit to their fastest swimmer.
