“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to swim at the University of North Carolina! I chose UNC because of the outstanding swim team, coaches, and academics. I can’t wait to be a Tar Heel!!”
Mary-O Soule of Asheville Swim Club has opted to remain in state, giving her verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina for the 2017-18 season.
Soule swam for her high school, T C Roberson High School, through her sophomore season, when she won the NCHSAA 4-A title in the 100 fly and finished seventh in the 200 IM. This past year she focused on club swimming and wrapped up the summer long-course season as a finalist in the 200 fly and 400 IM at 2016 Speedo Junior Nationals. Earlier in the season Soule won the 100y and 200y butterflies and 200y IM, and was runner-up in the 400y IM, at the North Carolina Swimming Senior Championships in February.
Soule’s best events are:
SCY | LCM | |
100 fly | 55.37 | 1:02.87 |
200 fly | 1:59.37 | 2:15.30 |
200 IM | 2:05.00 | 2:21.79 |
400 IM | 4:15.64 | 4:53.54 |
Soule is already in a position to add points for the Tar Heels at the conference level; she would have scored in the B finals of both the 200 fly and 400 IM at the 2016 ACC Championships. She will be joined by Caroline Hauder and Emma Cole in the University of North Carolina class of 2021.
