North Carolina IM/Breaststroker Julia Poole Gives Verbal to NC State

North Carolina State Women’s Swimming and Diving have kept talented IMer and breaststroker Julia Poole of Marlins of Raleigh in-state, according to the announcement Poole made via Twitter today. A four-even qualifier at 2016 Olympic Trials (100/200 breast and 200/400 IM), Poole will join the Wolfpack in the fall of 2017.NC State_w_Poole capture

Poole, a senior at Middle Creek High School in Apex, North Carolina, is the reigning NCHSAA 4A State Championships title-holder in the 200 IM. She won the event last fall with a time (2:00.75) that was only .17 off the state and 4A record; she was also runner-up in the 100 breast (1:03.14) and swam on both the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Poole was an A-finalist in the 200 IM and a B-finalist in the 100/200 breast and 400 IM at the 2016 U.S. Open Championships. Her top times include:

  SCY LCM
200 IM 1:59.76 2:16.93
400 IM 4:18.58 4:54.82
50 breast 29.47 33.21
100 breast 1:02.62 1:10.59
200 breast 2:13.99 2:32.55
100 free 51.13 58.10
200 free 1:49.00 2:04.03

Poole will arrive in Raleigh to take the baton from senior Kayla Brumbaum, NC State’s lone scorer in the 100 breast and 200 breast at 2016 ACC Championships. Poole’s 100 time would have given her a berth in the B final, while her 200 breast and 200 IM times would have been on the A/B-final bubble.

Poole will join Marlins of Raleigh teammate Kate Moore in the North Carolina State University Class of 2021.

Raz a great aide to her success; hopefully Silver can develop her more before handing her off to Holloway and his incredible staff!

Holloway is building a ‘hometown team’ in Raleigh. Riding a huge momentum from ACC, NCAA, and Olympic Games.

I thought you wrote 4’11” Olympic Trials Qualifier before i noticed you meant four-event qualifier. Nevertheless I’m impressed by your times and your college choice. Congratulations Julia
