Auburn Will Swim NCAA Champs Georgia and Texas in 2016-2017 Season

The Auburn Tigers will swim a whopping 6 SEC Opponents in dual meets in their 2016-2017 NCAA season, and will face at least one more at the mid-season Georgia Invite in early December as part of a loaded regular season schedule.

Auburn’s SEC Dual Meet Schedule:

  • October 12th – Kentucky (HOME)
  • October 28th – LSU (AWAY)
  • November 4th – Alabama (HOME)
  • November 11th – Tennessee (AWAY)
  • January 7th – Texas A&M (HOME)
  • January 21st – Florida (HOME)

In between, the Tigers have loaded up a schedule with few easy victories on it. The Tigers open up the season with a dual meet against the Wisconsin Badgers on October 8th, while their non-travel squad stays home and races the three-day War Eagle Invite.

That War Eagle Invite is one of four on the Auburn schedule this year – part of an overall nationwide trend toward more invites. They’re also scheduled to swim at the Georgia Tech Invite from November 17th-19th, the Georgia Invite from December 2nd-4th, and the Ralph Crocker Invite, again at home, from January 13th-15th.

At the Georgia invite, they’ll face another SEC opponent that includes the defending NCAA women’s champions from the University of Georgia.

In the second semester, they’ll see the defending men’s NCAA Champions from Texas on January 12th as they Welcome the Longhorns men’s and women’s teams to Auburn. That meet, along with Wisconsin, is their only non-conference dual this season.

Besides the defending NCAA Champs on the men’s and women’s side (Texas and Georgia, respectively) Auburn will also have duals against the defending SEC Champs on the men’s and women’s side (Florida and Texas A&M, respectively).

The Auburn post-season will continue to the SEC Championships in Knoxville, the NCAA Diving Zone Championships at home, and then the NCAA women’s (March 15th-18th) and men’s (March 22nd-25th) NCAA Championships in Indianapolis to finish the season.

The Auburn men finished 10th at last year’s NCAA Championships and the women were 33rd. The program will have several new faces on their coaching staff this year, including the addition of legendary high school and club coach Sergio Lopez as the program’s new associate head coach; the addition of former NCAA Record holder Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace as a graduate assistant; and one spot to be filled after Ozzie Quevedo left to become the head assistant coach at Florida State.
