While Nation’s Capital’s headliner, Katie Ledecky, is in Rio scoring a win in the 200 freestyle tonight, the team’s young up-and-comers are in Indianapolis taking down records with fast swims of their own. The NCAP team of Phoebe Bacon, Abigail Harter, Jillian Johnson, and Maya Fischer broke the 13-14 national age group record in the 200 medley tonight, swimming the event in 1:58.07.
The old record was a 1:58.34 set in 2012 by the Aquajets Swim Team’s Zoe Avestrus, Madison Preiss, Bre Thorne, and Rachel Wittmer back in 2012.
See the Nation’s Capital girls’ record-breaking splits below:
- Phoebe Bacon: 29.32
- Abigail Harter: 33.16
- Jillian Johnson: 28.98
- Maya Fischer: 26.61
13-year-old Bacon was one of the youngest swimmers to qualify for and participate in the Olympic Trials this summer.
This record marks the first NAG record for each of the athletes.
The team ended up third overall in the NCSA Summer Championship race, finishing behind the CSP Tideriders in 1:57.52, while Ozaukee (Autumn Haebig, Katelyn Kubiak, Katie Drabot, and Mallory Fox) won the event with 1:55.60.
It’s not their first NAG for a few of them. 11-12 relay. Maybe it was beaten but they got it.
Yes 11-12 NAG 200 Free SCY. Record still stands for Fischer and Harter
