In an interview on day 3 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Team USA Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer talked about her plans for the future. Vollmer, who made a comeback for the Olympics this summer after having her first child, says she wants to have a second baby.
As far as retirement, Vollmer isn’t sure if she’s ready to hang up the cap and goggles just yet. There’s a chance we may get a chance to see her swimming for Team USA beyond the Rio Games.
So far in Rio, Vollmer has added another Olympic medal to her resume. While she wasn’t able to defend her gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics in the women’s 100 fly, she did race to 3rd in the final behind silver medalist Penny Oleksiak and new Olympic champ Sarah Sjostrom, who set a new World Record to win the race. Vollmer’s bronze-winning time was a 56.63, just a tenth shy of her season best 56.56 from prelims at this meet.
I wish her the best of luck in whatever she chooses to do. Thanks for being an awesome role model in and out of the pool, you #mommaonamission!
