Auburn University rising sophomore, Katie Money, was looking forward to a fun, relaxing trip to Texas with her family, when a freak accident steered her plans off course.
Earlier this summer, the South Carolina native was leisurely floating down a river with her sister when a kid reportedly jumped off a bridge, landing right on top of Money. The 19-year-old Auburn swimmer began to immediately develop neck pain and headaches, both strong indications of head trauma.
Money described to the local media how, “When I woke up with the stuttering I thought, ‘oh it’s not going to last that long,’ and then on the way to the E.R., I was sitting in the back seat of the car and I just started crying, because I started thinking ‘what if I have this stutter forever?’”
Money was diagnosed with a concussion, as well as post-concussive syndrome. The latter diagnosis means she would most likely experience stuttering, headaches and dizziness ongoing, even for weeks or months. To help with her post-accident recovery, Money has been engaged in physical therapy 3 times a week and speech therapy twice a week.
“I thought that I would be running the dam and training a bunch and just going crazy with training, but I can’t,” Money said. “It’s very frustrating, it’s really frustrating because I thought that I would be taking the summer to get better and now I’m just sitting here.”
With the help of a new family dog, Ollie, who has helped Money overcome her temporary ailments through what Money describes as ‘dog therapy, the athlete has been recently clerared to start ‘light swimming’.
Money is still scheduled to head back to Auburn mid-August and is still hoping to compete in her team’s first meet slated for October.

There should be a major campaign in USA and abroad that what you do DOES affect someone else. I recommend you sue this idiot person for health damages. I know exactly what you are going through: the resentment and… Read more »
