Watch Inspirational Video For Katy Perry’s Olympic Song ‘Rise’

“I won’t just survive, you will see me thrive.”

The above words compose just a small piece of the inspirational new song released by pop artist Katy Perry entitled ‘Rise.’ The song will be featured in NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, whose opening ceremony kicks-off on August 5th.  Currently, the track is available exclusively on Apple Music, but she did share a small listen via social media.

NBC Olympics released a motivational video to accompany the song, which Perry says “has been brewing inside her for years and finally came to the surface.” (billboard.com) Making cameos in the montage of incredible athletic feats are swimmers Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky.

About the song’s message, Perry states, “I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honored that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games.” (billboard.com)

The entire set of lyrics are printed below in case you want to sing along to this spirited 2016 Olympic anthem.

I won’t just survive
Oh, you will see me thrive
Can’t write my story
I’m beyond the archetype

I won’t just conform
No matter how you shake my core
‘Cause my roots they run deep, oh

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Victory is in my veins
I know it, I know it
And I will not negotiate
I’ll fight it, I’ll fight it
I will transform

When, when the fire’s at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They’re whispering, “You’re out of time”
But still I rise

This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
Think again
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

I must stay conscious
Through the madness and chaos
So I call on my angels
They say

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Victory is in your veins
You know it, you know it
And you will not negotiate
Just fight it, just fight it
And be transformed

‘Cause when, when the fire’s at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They’re whispering, “You’re out of time”
But still I rise

This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
Think again
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Oh, oh, oh, oh
You know it, you know it
Still rise
Just fight it, just fight it
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

It is perfect for not only the Olympics, but for every day struggles. It is a beautiful song.

No Olympic theme song can ever be more beautiful and POWERFUL than Whitney Houston’s “One Moment In Time” for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and Celine Dion’s “The Power of the Dream” for the 1996 Atlanta Games. To this day they both give me chills.
