Sydney Pickrem picked up another win in the 200 IM this evening with a time of 2:14.73. Crushing the field by nearly seven second, Pickrem pulled away from the field after the fly to easily out-split the field on the latter three legs of the medley. Coming in second was Dakota Luther of local Austin Swim Club with a time of 2:21.34, which skates under the Junior Nationals qualifying standard by five-one-hundredths of a second. Aggie Jessica Sloan took third with a time of 2:21.41.
The men’s 200 IM was won by Dallas Mustang Duncan Lee. Lee’s winning time of 2:08.61 was just under the Junior Nationals qualifying time. Fellow Mustang Felix Van Cauwe took 2nd place with a 2:09.98.
Haley Yelle ran away with the women’s 800 free, winning the race by over 9 seconds and simultaneously qualifying for Junior Nationals in a time of 8:55.23. 15-year-old Ashlyn Fiorilli took 2nd in 9:04.97, just out-touching 3rd-place finisher Ellery Parish who touched in 9:04.99. Back in 15th-place was Margaret Mabry, who at 12-years-old was the youngest in the field by three years.
The men’s distance event of the day, the 1500, was won by Zachary Yeadon in a time of 15:44.20, skating under the U.S. Open qualifying time. On the opposite end of the freestyle spectrum, 16-year-old Matthew Willenbring captured the 50 free title with a 23.56, just two-one-hundredths ahead of second-place Joao Victor Mes of Louisiana State. The women’s 50 freestyle title went to Louisiana State’s Leah Trostok in a time of 26.09. Trostok also took the 100 free earlier this week in a time of 56.17.
