2016 Danish Olympic team member Mie Nielsen came away from the first day of competition at the Danish Open with wins in the women’s 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke. Nielsen started her evening by winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.26 over two seconds ahead of the field. She was well off her lifetime best of 54.47, which she posted at the European Championships.
Nielsen then went on to take the 50 backstroke in a time of 28.37 just over half a second off her season’s best of 27.73, which sits ninth in the world rankings.
The only other member of the Danish Olympic team to compete on the first night in Herning was Viktor Bromer who won the men’s 400 IM. The win was not an easy one for Bromer who had to hold off a late charge by Jacob Jorgensen. Bromer took the event in a time of 4:28.59 followed by Jorgensen who touched in a time of 4:29.28.

- Men’s 50 breaststroke – Christian Rasmussen – 28.38
- Men’s 50 backstroke – Magnus Jakupsson – 25.95
