Reese On Trials: “It Comes Down To What You Do That Day” (Video)

2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS

With the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials starting on Sunday, June 26th, all eyes are on the big stars ready to take to the pool in Omaha in their bid to become a member of Team USA in Rio.

Several key contenders hail from the University of Texas, where Men’s Head Coach Eddie Reese and Women’s Head Coach Carol Capitani find themselves in the familiar role of being on deck while the Olympic roster carefully plays out through the week. Both coaches, along with athletes Will Licon, Jack Conger, Madisyn Cox and Laura Sogar offer up their viewpoints on the meet, one that Reese describes as ‘the toughest meet in the world.’

Each athlete offers insight into his or her mindset entering the meet, with Licon stating he just needs to “go in and race.” He says, “at the end of the day, you just wanna beat the guy next to you.”

For Sogar, she describes success at the meet as “going in and swimming to the best of my ability.”

Eddie Reese coaches quite a few of the new faces at the top of USA Swimming,

Clark Smith, Jack Conger, Will Licon. Townley Haas. That 4 right there

Can he get his swimmers to beat the heavy favorites in their races?

Might be the story of the meet.

What is amazing – all swimmers in the meet are from ONE TEAM! USA!!!

It just so happens Texas tends to prepare some great ones for that team… Go Horns! RED WHITE and BLUE!!!

“You got a lane, you got a chance.” This quote completely sums up the US Olympic trials for me.
