USA Men Defeat Brazil 10-7 At FINA World League Super Final

Huizhou, China – June 22 – The USA Men’s National Team picked up their second straight win at the FINA World League Super Final defeating Brazil 10-7. Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC) scored five goals to lead the attack while Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA/Pepperdine/NYAC) and McQuin Baron (North Tustin, CA/USC/Regency) split time in net recording 10 saves. Team USA finishes group play on Thursday when they meet Serbia at 12:00am pt. In the win over Brazil, the United States got off to a fast start opening up a 3-2 lead after the first eight minutes. Brazil turned the tables in the second quarter outscoring Team USA 3-2 to leave the match even at 5-5 at halftime. The second half proved to be the difference as the United States began to pull away in the third quarter outscoring Brazil 3-1 to build an 8-6 advantage. They put the game away in the fourth adding on two more goals to take the match 10-7.

The United States struggled on the power play going just 4/15 and 1/2 on penalty shots with Brazil going 4/11 on power plays and not attempting a penalty shot. Alex Bowen (Santee, CA/Stanford/NYAC) added two goals in the victory.
