Janet Evans, Vice-Chair and Director of Athlete Relations for Los Angeles’ bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, was on hand at LA84 Foundation for Thursday’s press conference to unveil the 2016 U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo team.
“It is only fitting that the LA84 Foundation, which is the legacy from the 1984 Games, is able to host these incredible women here today, to announce their being on the team and to also send them off to Rio with all of our best wishes.”
Evans spoke to the newly-appointed team, welcoming them to the Olympic movement, saying, “On behalf of LA 2024, congratulations on making Team USA. There’s no greater honor than being an Olympian.”
And Evans should know. A member of Team USA at three Olympic Games, she won four individual Olympic gold medals and one silver medal. She also won 17 international titles, 5 World Championship titles, and 45 U.S. national titles during her illustrious career.
