Australian Paralympic Team Uniform Revealed

Australia has just unveiled the attire in which the Paralympic Team athletes will sport in Rio this summer.

The uniforms were officially revealed today at Sydney’s Doltone House, and 21 of the athletes were at the ceremony to model the new uniforms.

The uniforms feature ceremonial wear designed by the iconic Australian brand R.M. Williams, in addition to competition and casual wear by leading sports performance brand 2XU, who incorporated indigenous artwork into the clothing. The racing suits were also revealed to be Speedo brand.

“It is our hope that this uniform will further connect each athlete to our team and our history, and provide a stronger sense of identity as we strive for a common goal,” Chef de Mission of the 2016 Australian Paralympic Team Kate McLoughlin said.

The opening ceremony uniforms will feature a sky blue blazer paired with a long sleeve shirt, washed chinos in green, gold and ochre, and a navy suede belt. The closing ceremony outfit will differ slightly, including a striped polo shirt paired with washed chino shorts in the same color.

The Speedos rock a green and gold pattern on a black suit, utilizing the nation’s colors.

At the London Olympics in 2012, the Australian Paralympic Team finished 5th in the overall medal count with a total of 85 medals. 37 of these medals came from swimming, and out of the 32 total gold medals the team won in 2012, swimming accounted for 18 of those.
