MEN’S 100 BACK:
Top 3:
- Matt Grevers, 53.48
- John Shebat, 55.12
- Taylor Dale, 55.44
Matt Grevers, the defending Olympic gold medalist in this event, won the men’s 100 back handily with a 53.48. That’s about a second behind his season best of 52.54 from Winter Nationals, but still one of the fastest 3 swims he’s had this year. John Shebat (55.12) and Taylor Dale (55.44) battled for 2nd, with Shebat edging out Dale by a 3 tenths at the finish.
The next 4 swimmers were all bunched together at the finish, each swimming in the 56.7-range. Isaac Gwin (56.73) and Chatham Dobbs (56.74) took the 4th and 5th place spots, respectively. Kyle Robrock (56.77) and Ian LeMaistre (56.79) followed narrowly behind.
It’s gonna be heart breaking to see one of our great backstrokers miss out on the team.
Will there be any other meet before the trials?
There are a few more meets before Trials, but this weekend was probably the last weekend of BIG meets where the BIG swimmers will race. If potential Olympians are likely to race between now and Omaha, I would expect it to be one-off swims at small local meets with a specific purpose in mind.
Auburn has Richard Quick Invite I’m sure some Auburn swimmers will be trying to get some times in.
I am really feeling three sub-52 100 backs at trials
I’m really feeling a 51.1 from Larkin in Rio are you???
I also have the same feeling that Larkin will do 51.5… behind Murphy 51.3 and Plummer 51.4
very unlikely …. please come with something more viable .
none of those guys will swim that speed this year – they are not going to drop a second at the level. 52 low will make the team and medal in Rio.
totally agree
To go under 52 they need to split 25,0 and come back under 27. That would mean a 24,6(top3 at Kazan) without the turn, then magically go 26,9, something that´s been done only a few times . It can be done, but saying they can do 51,5 is just stupid.
totally childhood vision
He will be at 52 low at trials , like the 2 others . Big battle to come
Yeah! Both Murphy and Plummer have much better form to push further below 52 imo than Greevers. Gonna be the race of the meet!
He’s gonna miss out if 52 low is the best he can do.
you are such a great visionair
