In her day-before press conference at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, Arizona, 4-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin discussed her training in Colorado and how she’ balancing all of the demands of being a professional swimmer.

Franklin, one of the biggest media darlings of the 2012 Olympics, has set a media blackout date of May 15th, after which point she’ll stop doing most interviews or making promotional appearances in order to focus on her final preparations for the 2016 Olympic Trials.

Franklin will swim the 100 free, 200 free, 100 back, and 200 backstroke in Mesa. She’ll face up against Katinka Hosszu in the 200 free, 100 back, and 200 back; Katie Ledecky in the 100 and 200 free; and Simone Manuel and Abbey Weitzeil, among others, in the 100 free, giving her one of the most challenging sets of matchups of anybody at the meet.

I don’t think she gets to choose the date..

Not sure what her regular schedule is but if you were one of the biggest media darlings of the 2012 Olympics and with endorsements and other things I would guess that you still have a lot of commitments especially being a professional athlete. With the Olympics being the main event for swimmers and it only comes around every 4th year, I am a little surprised that she has chosen such a late date as May 15th.
