Indiana’s Lilly King crushed her own American, NCAA, and U.S. Open Record in the 100 breaststroke finals at the 2016 Women’s NCAA Championships. In a historic swim, King smashed through the 57 second barrier to set the new record at 56.85.
Earlier today, King broke Breeja Larson‘s previous American Record of 57.23, taking control of prelims with a 57.15. King was notably faster than Larson’s record on the 1st 50 this morning, taking it out in 26.61. Tonight, she didn’t hold back any on the 1st half, coming out of the gate even faster with a 26.44. She was able to shave a tenth off her 2nd 50 tonight as well, coming home in a 30.41.

King established herself as the top 100 breast performer of all time this morning, pushing herself even further ahead with her 56.85 tonight. Notably, Stanford’s Sarah Haase also lowered her time from prelims to a 57.36 tonight, which holds her at 4th fastest all time. King’s teammate Miranda Tucker also moved into the top 10 all time tonight. Tucker is now tied for 10th with Rebecca Soni at 58.10.
