Kelsi Worrell Crushes 100 Fly American Record

Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell blasted a new American, NCAA, and U.S. Open Record on Friday night at the 2016 Women’s NCAA Championships. Worrell swam a 49.43 in her last 100 fly as a collegiate swimmer, repeating as the NCAA Champion in this event.

Worrell previously held the record at 49.81, which she posted in finals at last year’s NCAAs. The big difference between tonight’s swim and her 2015 swim came in the 1st 50. She was out in a 23.09 tonight, compared to her 23.58 last year.

Worrell now owns 8 of the top 10 fastest 100 fly times ever swam in the NCAA. In addition, she has 4 of the 5 fastest 100 fly times in history. The only other person on that list is Natalie Coughlin, who swam a 50.01 in 2002. Worrell is the only woman to ever break 50 seconds, and she’s now accomplished that feat 4 times.
