Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of Camille Muffat, the French Olympian who earned gold in the women’s 400m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics.
Muffat was a three-time Olympic medalist and former World Record Holder who retired somewhat abruptly in 2014 at just the age of 24. She was en route to film a reality TV series in Argentina when the helicopter in which she was riding collided mid-air with another, resulting in her untimely death at 25 years old. Two other French sports figures, five members of the production staff and two Argentine pilots also perished in the tragic accident.
As remembrance, below is Muffat’s most successful individual Olympic appearance, her gold medal-winning, Olympic Record-setting 400m race from London.
