2016 Southern Premier Meet Day 3 Recap: Jones Takes Feigen In 100 Free

2016 Southern Premier Meet

There was plenty of fast swimming on the final day of the Southern Premiere Meet in Knoxville, Tennessee, with prelims being swum SCY and finals LCM. The addition of most of the SwimMac Elite squad to the meet added a lot of excitement and some speed to the meet. 11-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte had many swims throughout the meet, but scratched both of his events from prelims for the Sunday finals session.

The women’s 800 started off the finals session, with Madison Homovich from the Marlins of Raleigh Swim Team winning the 800 in a time of 8:52.49. Open water specialist Alex Meyer from Tennessee Aquatics won the men’s 1500 in a very solid 15:34.12.

14 year-old rising star Alex Walsh of Nashville Aquatics won a close race in the women’s 100 back, touching in 1:02.08 just ahead of Lakeside’s Asia Seidt (1:02.69). SwimMac’s Matthew Josa won the men’s 100 back in a time of 56.02 after posting a very quick prelims yards swim of 46.99.

A couple of former Olympic medalists came out on top in the 100 freestyle, with Amanda Weir taking the women’s and Cullen Jones taking the men’s. Weir won in 54.59 over her Swim Atlanta teammate Madeline Locus (55.97), and Jones won in 50.57 over his SwimMac teammate Jimmy Feigen (50.84).

Tennessee Aquatics Molly Hannis (2:25.44) triumphed over SwimMac’s Katie Meili (2:29.86) in the 200 breast. Meili had a very fast prelim swim of 2:06.04, less than 2 seconds off the American record. In the men’s SwimMac’s Marko Blazevski (2:19.07) took out Brad Craig (2:19.17) of Tennessee Aquatics.

SwimMac’s Alyssa Marsh (1:01.05) and Tim Phillips (53.33) were winners in the 100 fly. Matthew Josa was 2nd in the men’s in 53.48.

In the final relays, the SwimMac women won in 4:15.49, and the Bolles School Sharks men won in 3:54.81.

Yes, the 200 breast was a quick time. However, the 100 breast on Friday was a very quick swim for MHannis. 1:06.16 with a 3.26 second fade between the first 50 and the second 50, 31.45/34.71 (second or third in the world this year). That would’ve given YEfimova a race at the Orlando Grand Prix on Thursday, a day earlier. KMeili was very fast on Friday as well with a 1:06.77 Clearly, several of the American lady breaststrokers are hitting their stride.

A quick swim for Molly Hannis. She seems to be hitting her stride at the right time.

Pvdh maybe feigen silver was a once in a life swim only like Roberts. It is not his real usual level. His 2014 performance are on par with his pre 2013 times just that year world was an extraordinary performance.

Ugh Feigen what a disaapointment since 2013. Doesn’t seem to have taken his place seriously

There are many many different factors that can affect a swimmers performance, but you went ahead and jumped to the “he just doesn’t care” assertion.
