Ledecky talks about how she is excited to race this weekend, and that she hasn’t competed since the Pro Series in Austin, where she broke the 800 free world record. She cites that she has been training faster than she ever has, and says she will take a week at home after this meet before going to the Olympic training centre for 4 weeks.

She talks about Michael Phelps and how she has learned a lot from him, and is asked if she is looking to attempt a similar program as Phelps had in 2008 with her entered in the 200 and 400 IM at this meet. She states she isn’t going for his medal record this year, but doesn’t count it out for the future…

She says she is just looking to have fun with the shorter freestyle events and IM this weekend, and that she isn’t swimming the 400 or 800 here because she swam them not long ago in Austin.

Asked about her world record in Austin, she mentions she was surprised because it wasn’t a championship meet but also wasn’t surprised because of the work she knows she has put in.
