Stjepanovic Wins Third Serbian National Title in Belgrade

200 and 400 freestyle European Championship Velimir Stjepanovic won the men’s 200 freestyle on the final day of the Serbian National Championships in Belgrade. Stjepanovic picked up victories in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyle. On Friday he won the men’s 400 freestyle in a time of 3:51.03, on Saturday he took the 100 freestyle in a time of 49.48 and today he posted a 1:47.95 to collect the gold in the 200 freestyle.

His time was well off his season’s best of 1:46.10 which he put up at the Euro Meet in Luxembourg in late January.

Stjepanovic’s performance in the 400 freestyle was the top overall result in the men’s events.

Stjepanovic’s World Championship teammate Caba Siladji took the men’s 50 breaststroke on Saturday and added the 100 breaststroke title on Sunday. Siladji posted a 28.13 in the 50 and a 1:01.98 in the 100.

Ivan Lendjer, who won the 100 butterfly on Friday, had a close call in the 50 butterfly finishing one one-hundredth of a second ahead of Sebastian Sabo. Lendjer recorded a 24.53 followed by Sabo who hit the wall in a 24.54.

Tanja Smid won the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:10.11. On Friday Smid recorded a 2:29.18 to win the women’s 200 breaststroke, which earned her the top overall performance in the women’s events.
