SwimMAC Carolina coach Pam Swander will be leaving that program this spring to take on the head coaching and club director role at the newly-merged South Carolina Swim Club.
Update: Mount Pleasant has informed SwimSwam of the official terminology of Swander’s new position. She will be the head coach and club director of the newly-merged South Carolina Swim Club, a combination of the former Mount Pleasant Swim Club and LTP Racing Club.
SwimMAC announced the move via e-mail today, congratulating Swander on the new position and informing families of the coming staff shuffles to fill her roles.
Swander has been with SwimMAC since 2010, serving in multiple roles including North Region Manager, Senior 1 Lead Coach and Senior Division Lead, according to the club. She now takes on the top job with the South Carolina Swim Club.
Swander will finish out the next few months with SwimMAC, moving to the SCSC position in April.
SwimMAC’s e-mail had this to say about Swander:
“She has been a mentor to her staff and has touched the lives of many of our swimmers and their families. As well as she has been an integral part of growing the north region and fostering healthy relationships with Davidson College, HFFA, Moss Creek, Trump, and Summer League teams. While we are very sad to see her go, we are excited for the opportunity that lies ahead for Pam to build on her successes here, and we are looking forward to having a good friend to SwimMAC in Charleston!”
Excited for all of the positive changes for our swimmers. Welcome Coach Pam, we are glad to have you!
We are excited for the merge of these two outstanding teams. Coach Pam will help guide these coaches, teams and swimmers to be the best that they can be!! As a former swimmer, clubs merge and change names all the time. The swimmers gain so much more in this new team.
Welcome Coach Pam! Thrilled that our swimmers have a new team with a world-class coach!
Welcome Pam! What a great opportunity for Lowcountry kids! Thanks to all the volunteers who made this happen! Your dedication to the sport and the kids is appreciated!
Welcome Coach Swander. Although the merging of these teams has not been transparent or fairly handled. We have known for a long time that the low country without premiere facilities has been a premiere swimming community. Let’s show College of Charleston what a mistake they made by eliminating their team by putting Charleston on the swimming map with an incredible team under new leadership.
What an incredible opportunity for the Lowcountry! Very excited to welcome Pam Swander.
Congratulations and welcome Pam! We are happy you will be joining us in Charleston! Excited about the LTP and MPSC merge! What a wonderful opportunity for the kids! Go SCSC!!!
As a parent of a swimmer on another local team that is about to be swallowed up as part of the hiring of Coach Swander, I wish her the best. Nobody doubts her credentials but those of us on this other team are worried about how the swim culture will change by merging two teams under leadership. It is both exciting to have a coach with her credentials and frightening to have our team merged into another at the same time.
At least your team was notified it was merging with MPSC because we were not. We have not even been told that we have a new coach. The article just informed us of that!
Actually, we have not been notified. It is not official yet but I do have knowledge of what is going to happen. There has been a lot of hush-hush around all of this. But now it is one of the worst kept secrets about what is happening probably before the end of the week. Say goodbye to MPSC as you know it and I will say goodbye to our team as I know it because come April, those two teams no longer exist.
Our team just sent out an email. I am furious! As if April we are now SCSC. The people who are on the board leaked info and are only out for themselves. They have been pushing apparel and as of April it is all void! Completely Immoral!
Why leave when she is months away from getting a brand new aquatic center for her region? Doesn’t make sense.

Maybe MPSC is looking at moving into the City of North Charleston aquatic center in 2 years.
Ya think? Applying the same model as MAC is a no brainer….Charleston has needed this for a long time. Soooo much potential there in the Low Country…great summer league programs, huge community support and now there is a class act with Coach Swander to take it to the next level. Nice move MPSC!
There has been little to no progress with that land. Plus, it still has the stink of Brandon Drawz all over it.
I am happy yet surprised that SwimMAC has allowed two big coaches to leave their program this year with Alan Pfau being the first. Glad they are able to move up and make their own marks on the USA Swimming world.
