Emma McKeon won both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly at the Queensland Championships on Sunday night in times that place her in the world’s top five.
McKeon first took the women’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:56.09, which is not far off her lifetime best of 1:55.57. Her time places her third in the world rankings. McKeon was followed by St. Peters Western teammate Bronte Barratt who hit the wall in a time of 1:56.93, which places her fifth in the world rankings.

McKeon went on to win the women’s 100 butterfly in a time of 58.03 which puts her fourth in the world rankings. She was followed by Madeline Groves who posted a 58.49 and An Se Hyeon of South Korea who finished in a time of 58.89.

Cameron McEvoy, who set a new national record in the 200 freestyle at the Australian Short Course National Championships, took the men’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:46.44 which places him second in the world rankings behind Sun Yang of China.

Tommaso D’Orsogna and Chris Wright led the way at the halfway mark of the men’s 100 butterfly, but it was David Morgan who had the superior final 50 meters taking the event in a time of 52.33. Wright finished second in a time of 52.67 followed by D’Orsogna who recorded a 53.36.
Morgan’s time puts him fifth in the world rankings.
The top three finishers in the women’s 200 breaststroke from the Australian Short Course National Championships faced off once again in Brisbane. This time Taylor McKeown took the event in a time of 2:23.94 followed by Georgia Bohl who posted a 2:25.73 and Sally Hunter who finished in a time of 2:26.74.
McKeown’s time places her fifth in the world rankings.
Jake Packard took the men’s event in a time of 2:12.19.
Keryn McMaster won the women’s 400 IM in a time of 3:39.41 while Clyde Lewis took the men’s event in a time of 4:20.40.

David Morgan one to watch. He swam strong at Aus SC, and looked great in the 100m Fly last night. His turn and underwater speed was outstanding.
Hhhmm, he’s certainly going to have to produce some PBs (esp in the 100) to make the AUS QT but I will agree that he may be the best option AUS has in male fly given that Hadler & D’Orsogna have proven themselves utterly inadequate repeatedly in international competition and Wright’s record is little better.
There was another interesting little performance that slipped under the radar last night. In the B final of the W200FS, C1 decided to give herself a little 100m TT and popped out a 53.28 before leisurely strolling through for a 2.20.
