Spain, Netherlands Maintain Lead at WPWL

The third European round of the Women’s Water Polo World League 2016, held in Troyes (FRA), Athens (GRE) and Barcelona (ESP) on Tuesday December 8, saw the Spanish squad take the lead of Group B, totalling 8 points. The team beat Russia 16-9 in the Catalan capital (4-1, 4-4, 5-2, 3-2). Russia is now second of the provisional rankings with 6 points.

Still in Group B, Greek players were the best in action at home soil and crushed the Germans (21-1).

In Group A, the Netherlands have yet to be beaten as the nation kept its first spot (9 points). The Netherlands and Italy had an anticipated round 3 game on October 22 (NED 11 – ITA 10). Italy has 4 points.

In the match Hungary-France, held in Troyes, the Magyars emerged victorious (18-9: 4-7, 3-5, 0-2, 2-4),  and have now a total of 5 points.

Provisional rankings:
GROUP A:  NED 9 pts (3W), HUN 5 (2W, 1L), ITA 4 pts (1W, 2L), FRA 0 (3L)
GROUP B:  ESP 8 pts (3W), RUS 6 pts (2W, 1L),  GRE 4 (1W, 2L), GER 0 (3L)

The fourth round of the women’s European preliminaries will take place on February 23, 2016. The women’sIntercontinental Tournament kicks off February 16 in Lewisville, Texas (USA).
