The stars will be returning to Berlin for the 2016 edition of the 2016 FINA World Cup after two years away from the city. The series will be returning the short course format. Berlin had been a stop on the World Cup every year since 1998 up until the 2014 series. This year, they added Berlin as the second meet of the European cluster, bringing that cluster up to three meets.
The series will award more than $2 million in prize money over the course of the series. Each meet will have $102,000 of prize money available, with an additional $300,000 of prize money available at the end of each cluster. At the end of the series, there will also be another $360,000 available for the top three male and female performers. Additionally, there will also be the standard $10,000 world record bonus available.
Swimming fans will be excited to see Berlin back on the line-up. Berlin has been one of the fastest locations throughout the history of the series. Fifteen of the World Cup records currently on the books were set in Berlin. It should be just as fast this year with swimmers still rested from the Olympic games in Rio.

Cameron Van Der Burgh and Katinka Hosszu will be the defending World Cup Series Champions heading into the 2016 series.
