Marc Morizono, a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Southern California, has made a verbal commitment to the Cornell University class of 2020.*
Morizono is from Mission Viejo, California. He swims for the Mission Viejo Nadadores under Coach Bill Rose, where he specializes in mid- to long-distance freestyle and 200 fly. At the 2015 CIF-Southern Section Division I Championships, Morizono contributed to Santa Margarita’s sixth-place finish with a sixth in the 200 free (1:38.96) and a fifth in the 500 free (4:28.10). In addition, he swam fly (23.21) on the medley relay and led off (23.88) the 200 free relay. Morizono’s best times include:

Morizono is joining Cornell at the perfect time; the Big Red have put together a strong distance freestyle group, led by current sophomores Brandon Sweezer and Ryan Sharkey. Morizono should find good support in that group, and he should continue to develop while at Cornell; indeed, both Sweezer and Sharkey had strong end-of-season performances during their freshman campaigns at 2015 Ivy League Championships.
*DISCLAIMER: Morizono has not yet been officially accepted to Cornell. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Cornell’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete at Cornell is for Admissions to review (his) transcript and SAT scores, “support (his) application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer (him) acceptance into the class of 2020.
