Rutgers Swimming and Diving to Host Quad Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 5, 2015) – After a dominate dual win against Wagner in its last time out, the Rutgers swimming and diving team will host Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova on Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7, at the RU Aquatics Center.

Friday’s events will begin at 4 p.m. and feature the 200 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 Individual medley, 1000 freestyle 400 medley relay and the 3-meter dive.

Saturday’s action will commence at 10 a.m. and includes the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 freestyle, 200 back, 100 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 200 breast, 400 freestyle relay and 1-meter dive.

The Scarlet Knights enter the quad meet after securing a 195-102 home dual win against Wagner on Oct. 23. RU collected 10 first-place finishes against the Seahawks while junior diver Alyssa Black (Middletown, N.Y.) swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dive events.

Three swimmers each collected two wins in the victory, as senior Morgan Pfaff (Red Lion, Pa.)earned wins in the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Junior Rachel Stoddard (Hillsborough, N.J.) added victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.08) and the 200 breaststroke (2:22.07), while senior Joanna Wu (Kent, Wash.) secured top times in the 100 backstroke (55.54) and 200 backstroke (2:02.22.).

After the two-day quad meet, Rutgers returns to action for the Frank Elm Invite from Friday, Nov. 20, to Sunday, Nov. 22.

Scouting Georgetown

Under the guidance of sixth-year head coach James Holder, Georgetown enters the quad meet with a 1-4 dual record after concluding the 2014-15 season with a second place mark at the BIG EAST Championships back in March with 736.5 points.

In their last time out, the Hoyas lost on the road to Davidson, 166-132, as Georgetown collected seven individual victories in the loss.

Katie Duncalf and Laine Morgan led the Hoyas in the pool against the Wildcats as each secured two individual triumphs. Duncalf collected wins in the 100 backstroke (58.84) and 200 backstroke (2:06.63), while Morgan added victories in the 100 butterfly (57.21) and 100 IM (1:00.23).

Off the boards, Sarah Jaklitsch swept both 1-meter (245.17) and 3-meter (243.60) dive events.

Scouting Seton Hall

Seton Hall holds a 5-2 dual record early in the season with victories against in-state opponents Montclair State, Saint Peter’s and Monmouth. Last season, the Pirates finished fourth at the BIG EAST Championships with 472 points.

In their last time out, SHU delivered a win on the road against conference foe Providence, 189-11. Seton Hall, which owns a 2-1 BIG EAST mark, won 12 of 16 events against the Friars.

Seven different Pirates produced 10 individual wins against Providence, as junior Tessa Lindner, sophomore Kylene Ronayne and freshman Courtney McCardle all recorded multiple victories against Providence.

Seton Hall is coached by Rutgers alum Ron Farina, who enters his 16th year at the helm of the program.

Scouting Villanova

Villanova has produced a 2-0 dual record to start the season under 16th-year head coach Rick Simpson.

Last season, The Wildcats finished first  at the BIG EAST Championships, as 12 athletes were named to the All-Big East team. In their last time out, the Wildcats defeated Connecticut on the road, 175-152. Villanova produced nine first place finishes in the win.

Kaisa Kollunus, who represented Finland this past summer at the World University Games, contributed two individual wins in the 50 freestyle (23.75) and the 100 freestyle (51.33) while helping the 400 medley relay team capture first place with a time of 3:49.40.
