Canadian Trials Qualifier Olivia Paskulin Chooses LSU Tigers

For more commitment articles, be sure to check out SwimSwam’s College Recruiting channel.

After Lauren McIntosh, Catherine Lowengrub and Helen Grossman, Louisiana State University has now received a verbal commitment from Canada’s Olivia Paskulin.

“I chose LSU because of its amazing coaches and up and coming program. I fell in love with the team and the campus is gorgeous and it immediately felt like home. The support that they give their athletes was very impressive and I can’t wait to wear the purple and gold for the next 4 years!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!”

Paskulin is from Montéal in Québec, where she attends John Abbott College and swims for Pointe Claire Swim Club under coach Martin Gingras. Primarily a breaststroker/IMer, she is ranked number 1 in Canada in the 100 SCM for 18-and-under girls this year.

Paskulin is a 2016 and 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials qualifier as well as a three-time World Championship Trials participant (she was an A-finalist in the 100 breast in 2013). She was selected to the 2013 Canadian Junior Worlds Team and the 2011 North American Challenge Cup team.

Paskulin’s best times include (with SCY conversions):

  SCM LCM
50 breast 31.26 (28.16) 32.30 (28.19)
100 breast 1:08.03 (1:01.28) 1:11.12 (1:02.27)
200 breast 2:28.45 (2:13.73) 2:35.04 (2:16.07)
200 IM 2:17.89 (2:04.22)

It took a 59.8 to make the “A” final in the 100 breast at 2015 SEC Championships and 1:01.3 to make the “B” final. The Tigers didn’t have anyone in the top 8 but Paskulin will have a year to overlap with LSU’s highest scorer, B-finalist Colleen O’Neil.

On a more serious note, olivia is a wonderful lady, and has huge potential. the tigers are lucky to catch this young canadian! My daughter is aspiring to be like her, she has such a pretty stroke and really exemplifies the necessary power that a world class breastroker needs!
