Stratford, Clary Named Big Ten Co-Swimmers of the Week

Illinois’ Samantha Stratford and Ohio State’s Lindsey Clary were named co-swimmers of the week in the Big Ten. Stratford won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.94), 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.48) and 200-yard individual medley (2:03.82) to help Illinois beat out Michigan State. Clary won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:54.96), 500-yard freestyle (4:53.88) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.08) in Ohio State’s win over Ohio University. Michigan State’s Madeline Sewell earned diver of the week honors. Co-freshmen of the week award winners were Illinois’ Megan Vuong and Michigan State’s Julia Oppedisano.

Co-Swimmers of the Week
Samantha Stratford, Illinois

So. – Cambridge, Ontario – Centennial CVI

  • Recorded first-place finishes in all of her individual events and added a third-place tally in a relay in Illinois’ dual meet win over Michigan State
  • Finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.94), 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.48) and 200-yard individual medley (2:03.82)
  • Contributed to a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.52)
  • Earns her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award

Lindsey Clary, Ohio State

Jr. – Riverside, Calif. – Riverside Polytechnic

  • Finished first in all of her individual events in Ohio State’s win over Ohio University
  • Recorded first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:54.96), 500-yard freestyle (4:53.88) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.08)
  • The 2014-15 Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Ohio State Swimmer of the Week: Alex Norris (Jan. 21, 2014)

 

Diver of the Week

Madeline Sewell, Michigan State

Jr. – Mason, Ohio – Mason

  • Swept the springboard diving events in Michigan State’s dual meet against Illinois
  • Scored 299.10 points in the one-meter event and 325.05 points in the three-meter competition, recording NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both events
  • The 2014-15 Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns her first career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Michigan State Diver of the Week: Alison Menzies (Nov. 13, 2012)

 

Co-Freshmen of the Week
Megan Vuong, Illinois

Fr. – Mississauga, Ontario – Rick Hansen Secondary School

  • Recorded three first-place finishes and added a second-place touch in Illinois’ win over Michigan State
  • Finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.95), 100-yard freestyle (51.83) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:27.65), and collected second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.95)
  • Earns her first Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Illinois Freshman of the Week: Sam Stratford (Nov. 18, 2014)

 

Julia Oppedisano, Michigan State

Fr. – Strongsville, Ohio – Strongsville

  • Finished second in the one-meter diving event and third in the three-meter diving event against Illinois
  • Score of 276.60 in one-meter diving is an NCAA Zone qualifying mark
  • Earns her first Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Michigan State Freshman of the Week: Elizabeth Brown (Oct. 2, 2012)
