York YMCA OT Qualifier Kacey Oberlander Commits to ‘Bama

Kacey Oberlander, who swims for York YMCA, has given her verbal commitment to Alabama for next fall.

Oberlander’s Top Times

  • 100y back – 54.52
  • 200y back – 1:55.31
  • 100m back – 1:03.04
  • 200m back – 2:12.86

Oberlander’s had an interesting past few seasons– her SCY bests came from when she was 15 years old, and this past spring she was just 55.95 in the 100 and 1:57.27 in the 200. That being said, she’s improved each season since 2013 in the big pool, as her LCM bests in the backstroke came this year.

She swam at U.S. Nationals this summer, finishing 51st in the 100 back (and then lopped off a couple tenths in a time trial for her current best of 1:03.04) and winning the C final of the 200 back. Oberlander has Olympic Trials cuts in both backstroke races.

Oberlander would’ve been just outside of the 100 back C final and would’ve made the 200 back B final with her bests from 2013 at last year’s SEC Champs. Even taking her 1:57.27 in the 200 from this past SCY season, she still would’ve scored in the C final. She wouldn’t have cracked Alabama’s top 5 in the 100 back last season, but she would’ve been their #2 200 backstroker (even with her 1:57.27).

Oberlander joins Lexi SoutherAlexis Preski, and Cameron Brown in ‘Bama’s class of 2020.
