Maddy Conway of the Academy Aquatic Club has given her verbal commitment to the University of Florida for next fall. Conway is a backstroker, with a Winter Juniors cut in the 100 meter back. At the FHSAA 3A Champs last season, Conway was the 100 back runner-up and also added an 8th place finish in the 100 fly.
Conway’s Top Times
- 100y back – 56.67
- 200y back – 2:04.34
- 100y fly – 57.18
- 50m back – 30.76
- 100m back – 1:04.22
- 200m back – 2:21.73
- 100m fly – 1:04.55
Florida has a solid backstroke group, though they’ve got SERIOUS depth in the 200 back, specifically. Last year, they had eight girls break 1:59.00, led by current senior Ashlee Linn at 1:52.01. Conway should feel confident about the future of her backstroke, as she’s going to a program stacked with top-level backstrokers.
Conway’s meters times are more impressive than her yards times, and she may be able to develop her butterfly more to shift into a double threat in both back and fly. While she won’t be able to score at SECs with her best times now, Conway will add depth to one of the strongest facets of the Florida women’s program.
In addition to Conway, Niki Urquidi and Kelly Fertel, Makayla Sargent, Laura Rodriguez Cao, and Kelsey Dambacher will swim for Florida next fall.
