North Carolina, Louisville Capture ACC Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina swimmer Hellen Moffitt and diving teammates Jack Nyquist and Elissa Dawson, along with Louisville swimmer Trevor Carroll, were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

Carroll took ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors after posting three individual first-place finishes and one relay win in the Cards’ dual-meet victory over Xavier. The senior finished 25 seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the 1000 free, the longest race of the meet, while also finishing a half second ahead of the field in the 50 free, the shortest race of the meet, Carroll’s anchor split of 44.38 in the 400 free relay helped his team win the race with an overall time of 3:04.09.

Nyquist swept the diving events in Carolina’s dual meet with Georgia to earn ACC Male Diver of the Week honors. The junior finished 50.1 points ahead of the runner-up in the 1-meter competition and scored 445.73 points to his counterpart’s 360.68 in the 3-meter. Nyquist posted NCAA zone qualifying scores on both boards, with his 3-meter score coming in two points shy of the UNC school record in the event.

Moffitt was named this week’s ACC Female Swimmer of the Week after posting two individual and one relay win in the Tar Heels’ dual meet against Georgia. The junior’s butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay helped her team place first, while her NCAA B-cut times of 52.77 in the 100 back and 53.82 in the 100 fly also placed her in first in each race. Moffitt also finished second in the 200 back, finishing with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:55.53.

Dawson earned ACC Female Diver of the Week honors after finishing first in the 3-meter and second in the 1-meter in the Tar Heels’ dual meet against 2015 NCAA runner-up Georgia. Her 1-meter score of 290.85 placed her just behind teammate Maria Lohman, while her score of 334.50 points in the 3-meter event placed her almost 50 points ahead of the rest of the competition. Dawson posted NCAA zone qualifying scores on both boards.
