Olympic Gold Medalist Kromowidjojo to Highlight German Swim Meet

From 16 to 18 October, the 46th International Swimming Festival (“46. Internationales Schwimmfestival”) will take place in Aachen, Germany. Swimmers from 53 clubs from Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium are going to Aachen to compete in a short course pool in all sprint events up to the 800 m freestyle for women and 1500 m freestyle. The event has always attracted top swimmers – the meet’s record list includes Netherland’s Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Femke Heemskerk, Inge Dekker, Moniek Nijhuis and Germany’s  Thomas Rupprath, Marco Koch, Steffen and Marcus Deibler – among other well-known international swimmers.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo, the 2012 Olympic Champion in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle, will meet Germany’s fastest sprint lady Dorothea Brandt in the 50 m freestyle. At the 2015 World Championships, Kromowidjojo won silver in the 50 m freestyle in 24,22 seconds while the 31 year old Brandt  finished 10th overall in 24,74 seconds. The sprint stars could meet in the 50 m freestyle final which is scheduled for the evening of Saturday October 17th.
