3-Time Missouri State Champion Kelley Tackett Gives Verbal to Brown

Columbia Swim Club’s Kelley Tackett has made a verbal commitment to the Brown University Bears for the 2016-17 season. A senior at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri, Tackett helped lead the Rock Bridge Bruins to the team title at the 2015 MSHSAA Girls State Swimming Championship last February. She scored a pair of silver medals individually in the 200 free (1:51.36) and 500 free (5:01.78), anchored Rock Bridge’s 200 free relay (23.45) and swam number two on their state-champion 400 free relay (50.69). As a sophomore, Tackett won the 200 free (1:49.93) and the 500 free (4:58.95).

Tackett is coming off a strong year in which, among other things, she had an excellent showing at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana (finaling in four individual events and anchoring CSC’s winning 800 free relay in 2:04.45) and made finals at NCSA Junior Nationals (31st in the 200 fly).

Tackett confided to SwimSwam, “My goals for my Senior season are to make Olympic Trials in the 100 or 200 free and help my high school team (Rock Bridge) win the State Championship again. I want to study Linguistics in college, which is one of the reasons I chose Brown.”

*DISCLAIMER: Tackett has not yet been officially accepted to Brown. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Brown’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Tackett is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
