Harvard Men Reel in Two Commits: Dean Farris and Raphael Marcoux

The Harvard Crimson have picked up verbals from a pair of quick sprinters: Atlanta’s Dean Farris and Ft. Lauderdale’s Raphael Marcoux.

Dean Farris

“I chose Harvard because of the great relationship I have with coaches Kevin Tyrrell and Samantha Pitter, as well as with the down-to-earth guys on the team. When I was on campus it felt like home.  Also, I feel there will be the perfect balance of challenge in both the classroom and the pool.  I am really looking forward to swimming for Harvard next fall.”

A two-event Olympic Trials qualifier in the 50m free and 100m back, Farris swims for Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club under Coach Michael Norment. At Junior Nationals last summer, Farris competed in the 50 free (where he tied for fifth), 100 back (9th), 100 free (19th), 100 fly, and 200 free. He was also a three-event finalist at NCSA Spring Junior Nationals, placing 7th in the 50 free and 100 back and 8th in 100 free.

Farris is a senior at The Paideia School in Atlanta, and his best times are:

Farris’ fastest 100 back would have scored in the “B” final at 2015 Ivy League Men’s Championships, while his 50/100/200 free and 200 back would all have made their respective “C” finals.

Raphael Marcoux

Marcoux swims for Coach Dave Gibson at Swim Fort Lauderdale as well as Ft. Lauderdale High School. He won both the 50 free (20.61) and 100 free (45.17) and anchored Fr. Lauderdale’s 200 free relay at the 2015 FHSAA Class 3A Championships. Marcoux was named the Florida High School Dairy Association Male Swimmer of the Year for 2014-2015.

Marcoux was born in Québec, Canada, and has dual citizenship in the United States. His best times are:

*DISCLAIMER: Farris and Marcoux have not yet been officially accepted to Harvard. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Harvard’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Farris or Marcoux is for Admissions to review their transcripts and SAT scores, “support (their) application(s) for admissions in the fall,” issue them Likely Letters, then offer them acceptance into the class of 2020.
