South Carolina state champion sprinter, Peyton Wilson has verbally committed to swim for San Diego State University next year. Wilson, who swims for the LTP Racing Club and James Island Charter High School in Charleston, South Carolina, will contribute to the sprint-rich Aztec squad immediately in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles.
“SDSU seemed like the perfect fit because of the sprint oriented training program and positive group dynamic that the Team projected. I know that during my college swimming career, I will be surrounded by coaches and teammates that will support me and help me to improve.”
Wilson is the defending South Carolina High School AAAA state champion in both the 50 (23.92) and 100 (51.74) yard freestyle events. Her top SCY times include:
- 50 free – 23.54
- 100 free – 51.02
- 200 free 1:50.74
- 100 fly – 57.42
Wilson will arrive at a good time for San Diego State, who will need to reload their sprint group in a hurry. Of the 5 Aztecs who scored (3 in A final, 2 in B final) at 2015 Mountain West Conference Championships, only one (Samantha Guttmacher) will still be there when Wilson suits up. With All-American Anika Apostalon’s move to USC and the loss of three sprinters to graduation, the Aztecs will count on Wilson and fellow class of 2016 commit McKenna Meyer for individual and relay points.
