Winter Juniors Qualifier Brittany Weiss Commits to Liberty

The Liberty University Flames have picked up breaststroke-butterfly sprinter Brittany Weiss of the Central Bucks Swim Team in Pennsylvania.

Weiss holds winter national cuts in both the 100 breast and the 100 fly, and is also a very good sprint freestyler.  Here is a look at her top times:

Best Times

  • 50 free – 23.88
  • 100 free – 51.61
  • 200 free – 1:52.08
  • 100 breast – 1:03.87
  • 100 fly – 54.45
  • 100 back – 56.67

At the 2015 Pennsylvania AAA HS Champs, Weiss was runner-up in the 100 fly and added to that a 6th place finish in the 100 breast. She also swam the breast leg of Pennridge High School’s medley relay (29.02) which finished 2nd, along with swimming a 50.27 third leg of their 3rd place 400 free relay.

It looks as though Weiss has all the right makings to be a robust IMer– while she hasn’t broken 2:06 in the 200 IM, she’s very good across all strokes and it wouldn’t be surprising to see her develop into an IMer in her college years.

The great thing about Weiss’ sprint prowess is that NCAA teams always need fast-twitch athletes to lend help on relays. Weiss could probably work herself onto any medley relay leg, and she’s already prepared to score at the CCSA Champs. Last year, her best times would’ve put her in the 100 fly A final, the 100 breast and 100 free B final, and the 200 IM and 50 free C final.

Liberty finished 2nd in the CCSA last year, and will look to continue holding it down at the top of the conference. Weiss would have been their best 100 butterflier at last year’s CCSA Champs by over a second, and she would’ve touched 2nd overall at the meet with her current best time. She will be a great addition to a talented team, and she’ll likely take a lead role on relays and in her individual swims as a freshman.
