Mountainside, New Jersey’s Alexa Buckley has given a verbal commitment to the University of California Golden Bears, effectively trading one Berkeley for another. Buckley is a senior at The Pingry School in Martinsville, New Jersey, and a member of Berkeley Aquatic Club in Berkeley Heights.
Buckley is a 1:02/2:16 breaststroker with a strong 200 IM and short-end freestyle range (50-200). At the USA Swimming Futures meet in Greensboro this past summer, Buckley finaled in the 200 IM (3rd), 100 breast (12th), and 200 breast (15th). While the breaststrokes weren’t her fastest times, she did drop nearly 3 seconds in the 200 IM. Buckley also split 58.50 in Berkeley’s 4x100m free relay and 2:06.20 in the 4×200 free relay. Her best times over the last two seasons include:
SCY | LCM | |
100 breast | 1:02.57 | 1:12.56 |
200 breast | 2:16.58 | 2:42.37 |
200 IM | 2:03.98 | 2:22.38 |
50 free | 24.43 | 27.63 |
100 free | 52.26 | 59.61 |
200 free | 1:52.92 | 2:07.91 |
Buckley’s best times in the 100/200 breast would have scored in the “C” finals at 2015 Pac-12 Championships. The two events are among Cal’s weakest, with only Marina Garcia Urzainqui and Maija Roses scoring at conference.
The Golden Bears have also received verbal nods from Aislinn Light, Chenoa Devine, and Keaton Blovad for the class of 2020.

Way to go Alexa! We are so happy for you and CAL is lucky to have you!
Looks like Alexa’s been working hard, she’ll be a great addition to the team……. Welcome!
Maybe CAL will actually have some breastrokers this and next season. I just hope Teri doesn’t screw her up
