Micaela Grassi, a senior at Langley High School in McLean, Virginia and a member of the Saxons’ Virginia State High School 6A Championship Team, has verbally committed to Villanova University for fall of 2016.
“From the moment I stepped foot on the Villanova campus I felt completely at home. I chose Villanova because I fell in love with the team, the coaching staff, and the school itself. I cannot wait to be a Wildcat next year!”
At Langley, where she swims for coach Ryan Jackson, Grassi is the Conference 6 and Langley team record-holder in the 100y fly with 55.87, a Winter Juniors qualifying time. She is a two-time member of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-America team and a three-time Potomac Valley Swimming Scholar Athlete, as well as a two-time recipient of Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention honors.
Grassi also swims for York Swim Club under coach Parker Ramsdell. Her best short-course times are:
- 100 fly – 55.87
- 200 fly – 2:05.67
- 50 Free – 24.44
- 100 Free – 53.56
Grassi has made steady improvements over the last several years. In 2015 alone she dropped 1 second in the 100 fly, nearly 6 in the 200 fly, and a half-second in the 50 free. Both her butterfly PBs would have made “A” finals at Big East Championships, adding to the Wildcats’ already dominant position in those events. Her 50 and 100 freestyles would have made “B” finals.
