Miami University men’s swimming and diving team kicks off the 2015-16 season with some friendly competition at the annual Red vs. White Intrasquad Meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 in the Nixon Aquatic Center. There is no admission charge for this event.
Saturday’s meet will be the first time for the public to see this year’s 19 returning swimmers as well as the nine newcomers: Chase Bettner, Jonathan Brooks, Harrison Moncino, Ryan Nash, Robert Newman, William Pieseski, Nick Potter, Jake Precious and James Wray.
Among the returning swimmers are 200-yard freestyle relay MAC Champions junior Lucas Brock, sophomore Ross Westrick and junior Jack Strauss, who claimed the title for the first time in school history along with graduated senior Joe Baumgartner. Also returning this year is All-MAC Second-Team member Davis Staley and breaststroke specialist Evan Bader, who made an Olympic Trial cut in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Speedo Sectionals over the summer.
The RedHawks are back in action after a fifth-place showing at the Mid-American Conference Championships last year, missing third by a mere ten points.
The Miami women’s swimming and diving team also will have their Red & White Intrasquad Meeton Saturday in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
The men’s team begins their season Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Nixon Aquatic Center against Xavier.
