Mackenzie Glover, a backstroker/sprint freestyler who hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has made a verbal commitment to join North Carolina State University next fall. Glover is a member of the University of Manitoba Bisons club team, where she trains under Coach Vlastimil Cerny.
“I am so excited to have made this decision, and can’t wait to be a member of the Wolfpack! I knew from the first time I talked with Coach Braden that his passion and enthusiasm was something I wanted to be a part of. After meeting all the coaches and visiting the campus, I knew that NC State would be a great fit for me. The girls treated me like part of the family, and I can’t wait to join them next year.”
Glover’s top times over this past season, are as follows:
SCM | LCM | Best SCY Converted | |
50m free | 25.95 | 26.58 | 23.22 |
100m free | 55.92 | 58.43 | 50.37 |
50m back | 28.37 | 29.11 | 25.55 |
100m back | 59.74 | 1:01.58 | 53.81 |
200m back | 2:06.94 | 2:13.47 | 1:54.36 |
The Wolfpack women finished fifth in the ACC last year but are beginning to show some teeth in this recruiting cycle with newly-committed Brooke Rubendall and Ky-lee Perry. Glover complements Rubendall (more of a 200 back/400 IM niche) and Perry (22.4/49.3 sprint freestyler) nicely. It took 53.21/1:56.04 to make the 100 and 200 backstroke “A” finals at 2015 ACC Championships; if Glover adapts quickly to short course yards she should be a big scorer for NC State in 2016-17.
Glover told SwimSwam she chose to look at colleges in the U.S. because, “it just made more sense. There’s a lot more support academically for the athletes and people take the college swimming season more seriously in the states than in Canada. The whole culture of swimming is different in the states and that’s something I want to be a part of!”

Mackenzie Glover is not only a talented swimmer but she is also a wonderful person. Wolfpack got a good one! Wishing you much success in the future Mac!
The Wolfpack is getting a lot of commitments over the past 5 days and they are good… Very impressive!
As an ACC fan, I have been very impressed with the team’s improvement over the past few years. VT sure lost a great coach to NC State 4 years ago!
