Donald Bosch, attorney for dismissed Tennessee swim coach John Trembley, says that his client won’t appeal his dismissal from the University of Tennessee earlier this month.
Bosch, a former Tennessee swimmer, has been retained as counsel for Trembley in the ongoing police investigation by the Knoxville Police Department. The case was refered to KPD from the University of Tennessee, which implies that the two incidents are related.
Trembley had until January 25th to indicate in writing his intent to appeal his dismissal for what was broadly termed as “gross misconduct”.
The decision to not appeal is unsurprising, given both Trembley’s age and personal issues with which he has battled over the last year. The only likely outcome from a successful appeal would have been some sort of severance package rather than an outright dismissal under the terms of the contract. Both current and former Volunteer swimmers have indicated to us that though they respect what Trembley has meant to the program over the last three decades, the majority of the program is ready to continue on under new leadership.
