Day 3 of the 2015 New Zealand Short Course Championships brought another impressive swim from Junior World Championships-bound Gabrielle Fa’amausili from United Swimming Club. After having already nabbed the women’s 100m backstroke last night in a new age group record time, 15-year old Fa’amausili cranked out two additional wins in today’s session.

Fa’amausili snagged the victory in the 100m IM in a time of 1:01.39, a new national age group record, to beat out Australia’s Ami Matsuo who logged a time of 1:02.21 for second place. The same podium placement transpired in the next open event, where Fa’amausili brought home the women’s 50m freestyle in a time of 24.83 to hold off Matsuo, who settled again for silver in a time of 25.20. Fa’amausili’s victory not only registered yet another national age group record, but also marked the first time any New Zealand age grouper under 18 years old had cracked the 25-second barrier.
Ben Walsh picked up the win for the men’s 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:12.06, while Ewan Jackson came out on top of the men’s 400m freestyle field with his first-place finish of 3:46.60. Jackson won the 200m freestyle on the first night of competition.
