2015 U.S. Nationals: Kelsi Worrell Scratches 200 Fly Final on Day Four

2015 U.S. National Championships

Kelsi Worrell, the American record-holder in the 100 yard butterfly and 2015 National Champion in 100 meters, will not go for the butterfly sweep as she has scratched out of tonight’s 200 meter butterfly final. Taking her place in the middle of the pool will be Hali Flickinger of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who was second in heats with 2:08.80. Ninth-place qualifier, Chattahoochee Gold’s Lauren Case, moves up to lane 8 of the championship final and Dakota Luther of Longhorn Aquatics will contest the consolation final.

All 16 women in the 200m backstroke are present and accounted for. Danielle Galyer from University of Kentucky was the top qualifier with 2:10.48, but rising backstroke star Claire Adams of Carmel Swim Club, the National Champion in the 100m backstroke, will be right beside her in lane 5. Joining them in the middle of the pool will be Tri-city Channel Cats’ Lisa Bratton, who went a 2:11.40 in prelims but was seeded with 2:09.31.

There were no scratches on the men’s side of the meet. In the 100 free, Caeleb Dressel leads the field with a qualifying time of 48.98. Dressel owns the current National Age Group record for 17-18 boys with 48.97. SwimMAC’s Michael Chadwick and Cullen Jones will challenge Dressel for the National title, as will Rockbridge Storm’s William Copeland.

Nitro’s Will Licon improved his seed time by nearly 3 seconds to 1:58.50 to earn the right to lane 4 in tonight’s final of the men’s 200m IM. North Baltimore teammates Austin Surhoff (1:58.80) and Michael Phelps (1:59.63) will be on either side of Licon.
