With a brief update from the Victorian State Championships, where Michael Klim and Ian Thorpe are both continuing their comebacks, Klim has finaled in the 100 free, whereas Thorpe just missed.
Klim swam a 50.15 to place 7th (in a 10-lane pool) in the morning heats, with Thorpe touching in 51.05 for 13th. The required time to final was 50.72.
The top overall qualifier was former Auburn star Matt Targett, who swam a very impressive 48.86. The only other swimmer to go sub-50 was Cameron Prosser in 49.87.
Finals of the race will continue Friday evening (Australian time), and expect times to be faster later on.
